Since Ljubljana often has fog from November to March, we drove to Dekani. Our route led us along the railway inland until we reached the village of Hrastovlje. We made a quick stop for coffee, knowing there wouldn’t be another chance later. From there, we climbed up to Kubed and continued towards the village of Smokvica. Numerous ascents and descents guided us along the slopes of Kraški Rob. Stunning views, unusual stone sculptures, and abundant wildlife accompanied us.
The highest point we reached was a little over 800 meters above sea level. At the end, a long, beautiful descent awaited us. It started with a bit of rocky terrain and then turned into a gravel path down to the village of Podpeč.
The route is suitable for all types of mountain bikers. You can take it as we did for a scenic ride, or you can push a bit harder and turn it into a fairly challenging "training" session. Most of the trail is gravel, with some rocky and grassy sections.
